Research shows tuition to be a proven way to make a real difference to the attainment of students. Studies from the Education Endowment Foundation show that one-to-one tuition can help students make up to five months of extra progress in an academic year, however, the truth is, some students may be able to build their confidence and progress well without the need for and added expense of tuition. Sometimes, the right guidance and a few well-chosen resources are all it takes.
At Re:Tutoring, we believe in building honest, trusting relationships with students and families. That means offering sound advice, even if it means you don’t need our services just yet. Before opting for tuition, there are some steps students can try, to help them figure out where they stand, what needs work, and how to start closing the gaps. We have produced a free guidance sheet on this. Please contact us if you feel this sheet may benefit your child and we'll happily send you a copy.
What are the differences between the types of face to face tuition on offer?
We hope that Re:Tutoring will be a great fit for everyone that wants to access our services but to give you peace of mind before committing to ongoing sessions, we offer two paid trail sessions. These allow us to get to know your child, understand their needs and give you a feel for how we work before signing up to monthly payments.
Please call or e-mail us to discuss the needs of your child and to find out our current availability. You can find our contact details on the 'contact' page of our website.
For face to face sessions, your child should bring:
A pen and paper - lots of students like to keep a notebook solely for their sessions to jot down key points and worked examples.
A scientific calculator - it's important that students get used to using their own calculator before the exams. Bringing their own calculator to sessions gives us the opportunity to address any issues that arise.
Any schoolwork, revision guides, or past papers they’d like support with (optional, but useful to give a focus for the first session)
All other learning materials will be provided during the session. There’s no need to bring anything else unless we’ve discussed something specific in advance.
Parents are welcome to sit in on 1:1 sessions, however, please be aware that space is limited so we ask that only one person accompanies the student.
Unfortunately, for group sessions, we aren’t able to invite parents to stay, simply due to space constraints and to avoid distractions for other students.
Some students find having a parent present helpful at first, while others may feel more confident working independently. We’re happy to discuss what might work best for your child.
All payments for Re:Tutoring services are to be made by bank transfer. We do not accept cash payments as we do not store cash on the premises for safety reasons.
For face to face sessions, sessions must be paid for in advance. We invoice monthly and payment must be received before the first session of each month to secure your child’s place.
For online group tuition programmes, full payment for the programme is to be made prior to the course starting.
Full payment details will be provided when you book / on your invoice.
At this time Re:Tutoring do not offer discounts for block bookings or siblings.
As a new and growing business, we’ve set our prices carefully to reflect the time, planning, and resources that go into every session. This helps us keep the quality high for every student, whether they’re learning on their own or in a group.
We appreciate your understanding and support as we work to build a service that’s both sustainable and effective.
Re:Tutoring don’t offer refunds for missed sessions but we appreciate that life can be unpredictable, and so, we allow one rescheduled session per half term. All we ask is that you give us at least 24 hours’ notice of wanting to rearrange. Rescheduling is subject to an alternative slot being available.
If you decide to stop tuition, we ask for one month’s notice so that we can adjust your invoice and schedule accordingly.
If we ever have to cancel a session, we’ll offer an alternative time and if that doesn’t work for you, we’ll issue a full refund for that session.
