About me

My qualifications - I graduated with a degree in Natural Sciences from Cambridge University.  I then continued my studies, passing my PGCE with distinction.  I have been a fully qualified teacher for over 15 years and have experience of working in many different roles in education, supporting students to achieve their ambitions.

My experience - I spent 9 years teaching science - biology, chemistry and physics at KS3 and GCSE and chemistry at A-Level - in one of Chesterfield's top achieving schools.  I left teaching to focus on my young children but remained working in education, as a learning mentor, taking small groups for maths and science interventions.  I returned to teaching 5 years ago, teaching maths in a school setting before moving to a lecturer role in further education.  I have experience in delivering the KS2 and KS3 maths curricula, GCSE (foundation) and Functional Skills maths.  I have also been an examiner for both AQA (chemistry) and Eduqas (maths).

My strengths - I’m passionate about building strong, supportive relationships with the learners I work with. Over the years, I’ve developed a reputation for being approachable, patient and committed to helping students thrive whatever their starting pointI bring extensive experience of working with a wide range of students, including those who may feel disengaged from learning and those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND)I take pride in using adaptive teaching strategies that are tailored to each student’s unique needs.  My approach to teaching focuses on encouragement and creating a safe and nurturing environment where learners feel supported and, in time, capable of achieving their goals.

Why I created Re:Tutoring - After nearly 20 years of working in state-funded education, I’ve seen first-hand how many students, especially those who find learning challenging or who don't have support at home, aren’t always given the time, resources, or support that they need to thrive.  I wanted to create a space where students could receive truly personalised support, free from the pressures of large class sizes and rigid systems.  Tutoring gives me the chance to focus on each individual, helping them grow in confidence and achieve their goals, at their own pace.
